At
home I use 2 tuners, a Sony ST-SE570 Tuner FM/AM (Hi-Fi
Seperate) and a Sony ST-SB920 Tuner FM/AM (Hi-Fi Seperate).
I use the ST-SB929 for DX-ing, with the use of modified
filters (explained below)
The 920 is basically the same as the SE570, except it has
dual antenna inputs and a narrow/wide filter selection option.
I have had my 920 modified (by Paul from the Skywaves irc
chat) with 3x 110khz wide filters and 1x 80khz narrow filter.
This improves selectivity alot - very useful if the band
is full of local stations. It basically eliminates bleed
from an adjacant station, e.g 96.2 Yorkshire Coast Radio
- still heared on 96.3 with wide filters, with narrow filters
you no longer hear YCR on 96.3, which allows for Radio Aire
to be audible.
I've also had the tuner modified with a RDS cable, which
is attached to my pc via a serial cable. With software you
can view RDS information on the PC, you can also log this
information. Generally PI codes are identified quicker with
the use of software which is very usefull during DX. The
software I use is called 'FMDX' created by Herman Wijnants
and can be downloaded here.
And here are some pics of her.
