Nick @ Night ! Posted by: vivo
Posted On: December 15 2004
Nick's lecture about the universe and everything has been added to the recordings section. This lecture was intended to be 2hours long, but was interupted by very rude callers, So I have edited it down to about 30minutes, cutting out all the repetition/adverts and complaining callers. It's WMA and can be streamed straight from the site.

Seems my recordings have attracted some intrest, in the form of none other than Nick himself! My site is featured in his blog on the official hallam fm site :D

For fans of Nick @ Night's programme, theres a brand new forum (new - so sign up and post now to start the ball rolling) online at this address : http://www.retfordforum.co.uk/hallam - Gogogo!

The teenage guide on how to live your life. Posted by: vivo
Posted On: October 27 2004

Slightly off topic, but I've added a 'feature' to the recording section of a collection of mp3s/wma informing the youth of today on how to behave in an orderly manor, courtesy of radio phone-in programs hosted by Tom Davies and Nick Margerrison, Heh. So; calling all charvers/goths and any other member of a scene, I'm presenting you with some material you should listen to, it's time to open your mind. Long live the resistance. Budding philosphers may also be intrested in some of the recordings.

We'll be back to anoraking later on....

All is quiet on the western front ! Posted by: vivo
Posted On: October 05 2004

....................................tumbleweed....................................

Almost a month since the last update to the site... The fm dial has been pretty quiet and I've been concentrating more on Satellite recently.
My current setup is 2x 80cm dishes (old sky analogue type, free from local tip!!), a 0.3 Invacom LNB (£20 from Ebay) and a 0.6 Universal LNB (£10 from CPC) controled by a 2x1 DiSEqC. One is normally tuned to Astra 19.2 East and the other to Hotbird 13.0, all controled by a DVB (digital video broadcasting) SkyStar 2 PCI card.
However - I decided to be adventerous and go for some more exotic satellites, so I picked up the dish I normally use for Astra 19.2 (with 0.3 Invacom LNB) and within minutes I was picking up 7 East, 1 West and 4 West, all at approx 50-60% sig. More than enough for digital reception.
Here are some screen grabs from setup4pc - the skystar2 tuning application:

7 East 7 East(2) (Eutelsat w3a)
1 West 1 West(2) (Thor 2/3)
4 West (Amos 1/2)
And the normal setup:
13 East 13 East(2) (Eutelsat Hotbird)
19.2 East (Astra 19.2 80%+ on some transponders)

I'm really getting keen on satellites now, but my main intrest will remain radio.

More update will follow soon... maybe.... :-)

More DX + Recordings! Posted by: vivo
Posted On: September 08 2004

More DX on the FM dial today! A great day for me as I got a personal target. London's capital fm! Goto the logs to see more UK2UK catches! I also got a great catch from a 1kW TX in South Dublin called 'Dublins Country' on 106.8.
I've also uploaded some of the DX into the recordings section for you all to listen to, and is it just me, or does the DJ on sun fm say North Yorkshire? Ironic?!

More DX ! Posted by: vivo

Aswell as a great run of uk2uk later at night. Added to the logs page and to my all time uk2uk list! Looks like it's gonna be a good day tomorow too...

Today be a sad day part2 !! Posted by: vivo
Posted On: September 03 2004

After much work I managed to recover the cool edit pro TMP file of the last Tom's Talk-in (see below), however it was full of jumps throughout the entire of the file.
I did however manage to rip the 2 on air mentions Tom gave me which I have now uploaded to the TFM page

Today be a sad day! Posted by: vivo
Posted On: September 03 2004

Well, I didnt think I'd be writing this so soon... Tom Davies presenter of TFM's popular Tom's Talkin is moving to breakfast and is to be replaced by current breakfast DJ, Mojo. Sad news indeed for all us die hard Tom Davies fans, he's the best in his field and will be sorely missed!
According to the last show, where colin paterson program director of TFM made an appearance, Mojo's new show will be a mix of music and talk, so we've lost our dedicated talk-in... Time to retune the dial on a night time? Time will tell!

It was a great 'last show' though, and I did record it, However it was just my luck that my machine decided to play up, it crashed 45minutes into it! Just typical, considering the machine had performed flawlessly for 2weeks on the trot without a reboot, and as soon as I do something important, CRASH! Needless to say I was gutted. I also lost my 2 on air mention's which were made at the start of the show. Ah well. Such is life.

The show has been added to the TFM Page as a compressed wma (@28.8kbps mono), so dial up users can stream it from the site without rebuffering.

Pirate Signal ! Posted by: vivo
Posted On: April 21 2004

Last night, at about 2:50am, I scanned the dial and came across what I thought was DX on 107.3, It was playing a dance session by DJ Tiesto and had no jingles/advert breaks etc so I couldnt ID it, there was also no rds. At about 4am I realised the track playing was being repeated and this probarbly wasnt DX... Then the station all of a sudden cut off, so my guess is a small fm transmitter in Malton (my antenna picked the signal up best when beaming west, toward malton) kind of like my 50mW transmitter. If this was you - or know anything about this - please get in touch, I'd be intrested to know where you were and what you were using - the signal was at a comfortable 27dBto35dB in Settrington, some 4 miles away from Malton/Norton.

Work At Bilsdale ! Posted by: vivo
Posted On: January 20 2004

Last night between [approx] 01:10am and 02:26am and between 02:47am and 02:59am FM from Bilsdale was interrupted (Due to transmitter work). TFM 96.6, Galaxy 106.4 and Classic FM on 101.6 were all affected, Century 100.7, BBC National Radio and BBC Radio Cleveland were not affected.
During this time I managed to find BCB Radio on 96.7 from Bradford, with radio city bursting through at times. Radio Aire was also managing to get through on 96.4 which is normally taken up by TFMs huge signal here. Saga was also coming through on 106.6.
More intrestingly I also found a Blank Carrier on 101.5 at a massive 33dB! I have no idea where this originates from but I found the signal strongest while beaming South West.

PS:
After Bilsdale came back the first time, I noted reception of Classical on 101.6 was a lot poorer than normal and I could still hear the blank carrier on 101.4 (101.5 now swamped by Classic on 101.6), at 02:32am THIS was heared!

Local radio station Minster FM have finally added 'TP' (Traffic Programme) to their RDS, this means your EON equipped radio will be able to change to Minster automatically if they are broadcasting a Traffic Programme. The only station in the local area yet to have the TP flag enabled is yorkshire coast radio scarborough on 96.2
